How To Alleviate Back Acne

There are many different unsavory skin disorders that can develop. One of these conditions is acne. Although acne often appears on the face, it can also appear on other parts of the body, such as the back.

Back acne is a common condition that includes the presence of blackheads, whiteheads and cystic acne on the skin of the back. The condition is not gender-specific and occurs due to the same factors that cause facial acne. Back acne normally presents due to the over-production of oil, the presence of bacteria on the skin, clogged pores, and changes in hormones.

If you have acne on your back, you may be interested in finding ways to remedy the condition. Here are a few ways to help alleviate back acne:

Exfoliating Body Wash

If your back acne is caused by clogged pores, exfoliating body washes can help eliminate the problem. A body wash that contains salicylic acid is a good option. The acid helps clear the pores through chemical exfoliation.

The use of the body wash doesn't require any special preparations. The wash can simply be used in the shower as you would use any other body cleanser.

Antibacterial Body Wash

Antibacterial body washes help kill the microbes on the skin that can cause acne. Often, effective body washes contain benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient.

Loose Workout Clothing

If you work out, the tightness of your clothing can affect the acne on your back. Clothing that is tight can cause irritations that result in back acne. If your current workout attire is tight-fitting, try exchanging the clothing for attire made of loose, airy materials that help keep the skin dry.

After-Exercise Showers

After working out, be sure to shower. Sometimes, people who exercise fail to shower immediately after a workout. The delay allows bacteria to build up on the skin.

Use a Brush or Scrub to Exfoliate

If you are using a standard body wash to clean your back, try using a brush or other mechanical exfoliator to apply the cleanser. The scrubbing action of the exfoliator will help to clear the pores of the skin to prevent them from becoming clogged with dirt, oil, and other debris. To avoid irritation, it is best to only use a mechanical exfoliator a couple of times per week.

If you suffer from back acne or other skin conditions and are seeking relief, schedule an appointment with a dermatology office in your local area.
